It was with great pleasure that we welcomed Mr. Vaggelis Gerovassileiou, the owner of the winery on Thursday 14th March for the second time at our facilities.
Mr. Gerovasilleiou talked to us about his winery and the varieties he cultivates. He also presented some of the wines he produces. More specifically, the students had the opportunity to taste: Gerovassileiou Lefkos (white), Gerovassiliou Erythros (red), Malagouzia and Avaton.
The winery covers an area of 56 hectares where Greek and foreign varieties are cultivated. The white varieties cultivated are: Malagouzia, first vinified by M Gerovassiliou and Asyrtiko first cultivated on the island of Santorini. On the other hand, Limno, an ancient Greek variety mentioned by Aristophanes in the 5th century, Mavroudi and Mavrotragano are the Greek red varieties. Furthermore the French varieties cultivated are: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viogner as well as Syrah, Merlot and Grenache Rouge.
Of great interest is the museum, which has a collection of corkscrews, bottles, wine collection tools and cooperage tools as well as bottling tools from around the world.
